SPLASH: Free Arts Workshops Transforming Lives in Chattanooga
SPLASH is a free arts program in Chattanooga, Tennessee, dedicated to enriching lives through art. Our year-round workshops serve urban youth, families, and seniors, using the transformative power of creativity to build stronger communities.
Our core mission focuses on providing high-quality arts education to urban youth and students in local schools, and daycare facilities. SPLASH ensures that children of all ages have access to creative experiences that nurture their imagination and confidence.
We’re proud to be a consistent presence in the Hamilton County Juvenile Center, offering weekly arts sessions that give young people a positive outlet for self-expression and growth.
SPLASH believes art should be accessible to everyone, regardless of age. That’s why we extend our programs to seniors in Adult Day Care centers and local recreation centers, bringing joy and engagement through creative activities.
We also partner with Chattanooga Room in the Inn, a nonprofit supporting women with mentorship and housing. Here, we empower youth to find their voices through artistic exploration. Additionally, every Friday night, SPLASH brings art-making and a hot meal to families at the McClelland Shelter for Families, providing comfort and creativity in a supportive environment
At SPLASH, we’re committed to making arts enrichment available to anyone in Chattanooga and have a free regular weekly pop-up art-class for all ages, at the main branch of the Chattanooga Library, downtown. Whether you’re picking up a paintbrush for the first time or rediscovering your love of art, SPLASH is here to inspire and connect.
SPLASH was founded by professional artists: Charlie and Iantha Newton, two working artists who have a consuming passion to see young lives changed and are committed to working with some of Tennessee's poorest kids from under served high-crime areas to mitigate some of the "at-risk" factors that negatively impact their lives.
Lead Artist, Mr. Newton (grew up in government housing in a low-income community) and embraces the opportunity to “give back” and provide the kids a service that he was not able to afford or obtain as a youngster.
“I am looking for little 'Charlie Newtons' – art lifted me above my environment and afforded me a college education. Using the vehicle of art I desperately want to plant seeds of positivity and hope in these children's lives.” (Charlie Newton, Exec. Dir. and Co-Founder)
Our program uses art to create an atmosphere of support where instruction in art and mentoring in social skills can take place.SPLASH serves some 150 children mainly in the age range of 4-15 in Chattanooga, TN.
