WHAT?
SPLASH is a year round free arts workshop serving urban youth in the Chattanooga, Tennessee area.
WHO?
SPLASH was founded by professional artists: Charlie and Iantha Newton, two working artists who have a consuming passion to see young lives changed and are committed to working with some of Tennessee's poorest kids from under served high-crime areas to mitigate some of the "at-risk" factors that negatively impact their lives.
Mr. Newton (grew up in government housing in a low-income community) and embraces the opportunity to “give back” and provide the kids a service that he was not able to afford or obtain as a youngster.
“I am looking for little 'Charlie Newtons' – art lifted me above my environment and afforded me a college education. Using the vehicle of art I desperately want to plant seeds of positivity and hope in these children's lives.” (Charlie Newton, Exec. Dir.)
Our program uses art to create an atmosphere of support where instruction in art and mentoring in social skills can take place.
SPLASH serves some 150 children mainly in the age range of 4-15 in Chattanooga, TN.
