SPLASH Board

Charlie Newton -  Board President and Executive Director Mr. Newton is Executive Director. A professional artist for many years, his qualifications include graduating with a MFA degree from Norfolk State University and teaching as an adjunct professor at University of Tennessee Chattanooga, Bellhaven University and Chattanooga State Community College. He has completed several public commissions in the Southeast. He also serves as SPLASH Head Art Instructor. 

Iantha Newton - Board Secretary and Executive Assistant Ms. Newton is also a professional artist, her qualifications include: BA(hons) degree from University of North London, England.  Her experience ranges from  adminstrative officer  to her current career that of professional artist. She has garnished  representation from four galleries in the Southeast.   

Jim Collins - A professional artist of many years, Mr. Collins received an A.B. degree from Marshall University in West Virginia, a M.P.H. degree from the University of Michigan, and a M.F.A. degree in sculpture from Ohio University. He is indexed in the Dictionary of American Sculptors and similarly in Who’s Who in American Art. Primarily a sculptor, Mr Collins was a Professor of Art at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga from 1966 until 1983 when he resigned that teaching position to devote full time to his career as a professional artist. 

S. Reginald Ruff, III - Mr. Ruff received a Bachelor of Architecture Degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. A registered Architect with an NCARB Registration PC, Mr Ruff is President of SRR & Associates, PC.  He is registered in the State of Tennessee, Maryland, Georgia, and Pennsylvania and is responsible for overall marketing and management of  SRR & Associates. His responsibilities include defining and developing new business opportunities  and serving as Project Manager on the firm's ongoing projects.  

Carolyn Towns - Ms. Towns received a BA in political science and a Master of Education from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She holds an Ed.S. degree from the University of West Georgia in educational administration and has served as a classroom teacher, as well as a middle and high school principal.  She most recently served as Interim Director of the Chattanooga Girls Leadership Academy and is currently doing consulting work with CGLA as they pursue their Southern Association of Colleges and Schools accreditation.

James McKissic  -  Mr McKissic attended the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government, New York University and University of  Tennessee in Chattanooga. He currently serves as Director of Multicultural Affairs in the Mayor's Office. His background includes Chief Operating Officer at Urban League of Greater Chattanooga, AmreriCorps Member/Leader at APPLE Corps., Associate Director 21st Century Child Development Ctr. Director Youth Development at RYASAP, Consultant at New York Health and Hospitals Corporation and Program Associate at Center for School Success.
